If you like Rammstein, the other band you should try is Oomph! as they are kind of similar.

"Lacrimosa" is a gothic-metal band. Their music is kind of depressing, but really nice.

"Die Apokalyptischen Reiter" is a cool metal band with many songs sung in German (their music is sometimes on the brutal side so if you're not too used to that kind of metal, beware).

Also is singing in German a requirement? There are lots of awesome metal bands in Germany but most of them sing in English.

For metal fans, the German magazine Rock Hard is the ultimate reference. (though once again, there will be very little about bands actually sining in German in it as they are the exception rather than the norm)

I love Lacrimosa, at least the older CDs. Echos was okay, but not really my music.
However:
I highly recommand Die Ärzte. It's a German Punk Rock band with a really great humor.
It's sometimes a little stupid, but at the same tame really great. Their last release was "Jazz ist anders" and there is an "Economy Version", which makes fun of each and every single song.

It is the German song "Friedenspanzer" with English subtitles. And as a little hint: a lot of their music includes a hint of irony. Not everything, but I would like to add that anyway, because it makes the song a lot more enjoyable - even though the subtitles are a tad hard to read.
Plus:
They have really amazing lyrics. Okay, some of that stuff sounds a little stupid, if you go for the content, but they have a real talent with the German language. Which in turn makes it worth while to listen to it, beside the fact that they make some downright amazing music, at least in my eyes...

Yeah, they are mostly popular among teenage girls. Curiously, they are also extremely successful in France where the phenomenon has caused a huge increase of interest for the German language in French junior high schools.
