| Judith: The speakers are friends, therefore they’ll be speaking informal German. |

| Sarah: Wir hätten gerne vier Karten für “Transformers 4”! |
| Peter: Können wir eigentlich auch ermäßigte Karten bekommen? Wir sind Schüler an der Goethe-Schule. |
| Kassiererin: Nein, die gibt es nur für Studenten und Schüler an normalen Schulen. |
| Kassiererin: Das macht dann 32 Euro für Sie alle zusammen. |

| Paul: Ich möchte hinten sitzen! Ihr auch? |
| Sarah: Da dürfen wir nicht sitzen! Das sind die Logenplätze. Die sind teurer. Aber vorne sieht man auch gut. |

| Sarah: Ähm... das geht leider auch nicht. Die Plätze haben Nummern. Man darf nur da sitzen, wo das Ticket es sagt. Wir haben Plätze in der achten Reihe, Nummern vierzehn bis achtzehn. |

| Sarah: Ehm... that's not possible either, unfortunately. The seats have numbers. You may only sit where the ticket says. We have seats in row 8, numbers fourteen to eighteen. |

| Paul: Oh! Then I shall sit there. May I pass please? |
| Angelina: Bitte. |

| Judith: Continuing with the movie theme, now we should talk about German actors. |
| Chuck: Germany has its share of great and good-looking actors, but not many are known outside of Germany, but here are some you may have heard of. |
| Judith: Like Marlene Dietrich. Is that Marlene Dietrich in English? |
| Chuck: I think so. |
| Judith: I think you mispronounce her name. Anyway, Marlene Dietrich is the earliest German actress to make it abroad and she’s also one of the American Film Institute’s best actresses of all times. She starred in the Blue Angel. |
| Chuck: Then there’s [Till Schweiger], a good-looking male actor which you should probably say instead of me. There’s [Moritz Bleibtreu], best known for his role on Knocking on Heaven’s Door. |
| Judith: There’s [Till Schweiger], a good-looking male German actor. American’s mostly know him through his role in Lara Croft. Tomb Rider, but he really appeared in lots of contemporary German movies. |
| Chuck: Didn’t he pretty much star in all of them, actually? |
| Judith: Not really, but it certainly seems that way. |
| Chuck: Also, you might have heard of Claudia Schiffer, a German super model who starred in Richy Rich. She was born in [Rheinberg], that’s actually a few kilometers from where you were born, isn’t it? |
| Judith: Yeah, exactly. |
| Chuck: Wow. It’s ok, you’re a star too. I hear you appear on German podcasts. |

| VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE |
| Chuck: Let’s have a closer look at the usage for some of the words and phrases from this lesson. |
| Judith: The first word we'll look at is [Bekommen]. |
| Chuck: Now, be careful, this has nothing to do with the English word “to become”. Actually, you’ll hear a lot of Germans make this mistake. They’ll say things like “I want to become a beef steak”. |
| Judith: But you forgot to mention what [Bekommen] actually means. [Bekommen] is “to get”. |
| Chuck: Yeah, that’s important. |
| Judith: Ok, then we have [Logenplatz]. It’s a box seat. It could be in a separate area, but in cinemas you probably call the upper seats [Logenplatz]. They don’t actually look all that different. |
| Chuck: This makes them sound fancier. |
| Judith: Yeah, it’s derived from old theaters. |
| Chuck: Be careful when you go into the theatre and you’re a foreigner, they’ll often just give you the more expensive seats. |
| Judith: Ok, [Teurer]. |
| Chuck: More expensive. |
| Judith: Is the comparative of [Teuer]. |
| Chuck: “Expensive”. Could you say those two words back to back again? It’s kind of hard to hear. |
| Judith: Yeah, the base word is [Teuer] and the comparative is [Teurer]. You will notice that sometimes when the adjective ends in ER, then some forms will end in RE instead. The same thing happens for feminine forms, for example, like [Eine teure Kamera] or [Eure Freundin]. You know, “euer” “your” plural”, [Euer, euer] and for feminine we say [Eure]. Finally, [Welches]. |
| Chuck: Normally means “which”. |
| Judith: Yes, normally it means “which” but for neuter word, like [Welches Eis] or [Welches Kino]. But if you don’t use it with any other word, then it can also mean “some”. In the dialogue someone was asking [Möchtet ihr auch welches?], “Do you also want some?” |
