F: German Survival Phrases. Lesson 44, Your Ticket to a Culturally Rich Stay in Germany. |
M: There is so much to do and see in Germany and there are times when access to some Massy places requires an admission ticket. So today, we are going to work on getting you through the gate as we will take a look at buying tickets. In German, ticket is [Eintrittskarte] Let’s break it down by syllable [Eintrittskarte] Now let’s hear it one more time [Eintrittskarte] In German, one ticket please is [Eine Eintrittskarte bitte] The first word [Eine] means a, this is followed by [Eintrittskarte] which in German is ticket. So to recap here, we have [Eine Eintrittskarte] Literally this means a ticket. Let’s take a look at the next word which you know very well [bitte] and it means please. So altogether we have [Eine Eintrittskarte bitte] Literally this means a ticket please and now we are going to work on getting tickets for the rest of the party. Let’s recap numbers from 1 to 10, 1 [eins] 2 [zwei] 3 [drei] 4 [vier] 5 [fünf] 6 [sechs] 7 [sieben] 8 [acht] 9 [neun] 10 [zehn] So three tickets please in German is [Drei Eintrittskarten bitte] The first word [drei] means three. This is followed by [Eintrittskarten] which in German is tickets, the plural form of the noun [Eintrittskarte]. So to recap here, we have [Drei Eintrittskarten] Literally this means three tickets. Let’s take a look at the next word which you’ve just seen [bitte] and it means please. So altogether we have [Drei Eintrittskarten bitte] Literally this means three tickets please. Now let’s try it with 5 tickets. Five tickets please in German is [Fünf Eintrittskarten bitte] Very often, you may be asked [Ihre Eintrittskarte bitte] Your ticket please in order to show your ticket not only at the entrance. So keep these admissions with you until you leave the place you are visiting. For example, when I went to the famous Museum Island in Berlin, and they are just playing a lot of different arts there, Egyptian and Persantine Middle East art there is also the famous national gallery among other exhibitions. I not only had to show the ticket at the main entrance gate but also needed to show it at every single section. So keep these tickets please. The first word of the phrase [Ihre Eintrittskarte bitte] is [Ihre] your, possessive pronoun, third person plural for feminine nouns. It’s used in the formal way of speech. Let’s break it down by syllable and hear it one more time [Ihre] Then you have [Eintrittskarte] ticket. Let’s break it down by syllable and hear it once more [Eintrittskarte] And finally you have [bitte] please. Altogether we have [Ihre Eintrittskarte bitte] which literally means your ticket please and with this, we’ve reached the end of this lesson. |
Okay to close our today’s lesson, we would like you to practice what you’ve just learned. I will provide you with the English equivalent of the phrase and you are responsible for shouting it out aloud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So [Viel Glück] which means good luck in German. |
