Hi Darren,

As for "Samen" and "Semen" yes, it goes to show how

close English and German really are in many respects. But please remember

that you would use the words "seeds" in English for the example above.

"Stelle" in this case is the imperative for "stellen",

and it is at the beginning of the sentence which is why it is spelled

with a capital "S".

And yes, "Stelle", the noun, means location.

"hinzu" as well as the similar "dazu" are adverbs and used rarely. When they are used,

it is if you want to say that something is added somewhere/to something, as in the case

above where you add water to the soil. It can also take the meaning of "in addition".

I hope this was helpful.

Thank you.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Kind regards,

Reinhard

What is โ€œHinzuโ€?

Is it some kind of combination and truncation of zu and hinter?

Stelle means both to put and location. How can it be both a verb and a noun?

Interesting Samen is similar to the English word semen. Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s not a coincidence
